Shamil Salmanovich Basaev how they killed him. Who and how destroyed Shamil Basayev

On Thursday, June 7, the domestic thriller "Decision on Liquidation" is released in Russian cinemas. The picture is based on real events: a special operation of the Federal Security Service to search for and destroy the leader of the terrorists Shamil Basayev.

The name of the anti-hero of Decision on Liquidation is Shamil Bazgaev. With this step, the creators of the picture emphasize that the film is not a documentary reconstruction of those events, and truth and fiction are combined in approximately the same amount in it.

“We want this story to be watched by as many viewers as possible. And simple operational work from the outside may seem boring in a sense. Moreover, this is just an everyday feat, an intellectual effort, the solution of unsolvable problems! .. I wanted to make it interesting. Therefore, the ratio of truth and fiction is 50 to 50, ”director Alexander Aravin explained the position of the film crew.

According to him, the image of the protagonist is collective, and in the described events there are elements of real operations that took place at that time in the Caucasus.

According to the plot main character, FSB officer Yegor, comes to the Caucasus to find and eliminate the leader of the terrorists Bazgaev. Lame, as the militant is called among themselves by the employees of the authorities, Yegor once saw live - in that meeting, Bazgaev killed his young partner.

The operative does not plan to return to those places - on the contrary, he wants to forget what happened. But colleagues say: "It is necessary." After all, everything indicates that the militants are preparing another attack.

Indeed, the terrorists use all sorts of resources to raise a large amount to buy military equipment that would allow them to shoot down a plane. Russian President during the summit of leaders of states in St. Petersburg. It is these guns that the special services should intercept.

Help from the secret services

To make everything that happened on the screen look authentic, the filmmakers asked the FSB for help: the filmmakers were advised by real operatives who were directly involved in the operation to eliminate Basayev.

“We were helped by members of the special services and, in fact, by the very people who were involved in the operation. It was very useful and very important for the actors and for the director, for everyone. Therefore, in my opinion, the film has that authenticity that many films lack,” said the producer of the film, Karen Shakhnazarov.

According to him, people associate the phrase “our special services” with something formidable, large and inanimate. However, the main advantage of this picture is precisely the demonstration of real, living people who sometimes die while doing their duty.

“This picture is not based on motives. This is a film adaptation of a completely, in my opinion, an unusual operation carried out by our special services, ”the producer emphasized.

“We go to work, and they go to a feat”

As Alexander Aravin told RT, it was Shakhnazarov who had the idea to make a film on such a topic. And the director was chosen, probably on the basis of experience: Aravin's filmography already contains several films related to intelligence officers.

“It was very interesting for me. I have always been interested in talking about these people. You know, the better they work, the less we know about them. This does not negate their courage, heroism, intellectual efforts. And I would like to talk about them and, in a sense, bow to them for our quiet life. These are the same people as we are, only ... we go to work, and they go to a feat, ”said the director.

Aravin admits that in the course of working on the film he made some discoveries regarding the life of special forces employees:

“It seems to be such people of“ a cloak and a dagger. So concentrated, in some way imperceptible. We saw people, beautiful both externally and internally, who perceive and love this life. And you discover a story for yourself that only if you love life very much, then you can sacrifice something for it. Sometimes life itself.

It was much more difficult for the creators of the picture to understand the motivation of the terrorists. Especially after visiting the school and the memorial cemetery in Beslan.

“Because it is somewhere already beyond. This is something that cannot be comprehended by a person. In order to comprehend this, you need to become a beast yourself, ”explains the director. But he immediately adds: what happened in North Ossetia indicates that “the misanthropic philosophy of these fighters for no reason” is unviable, and people who can bring pain to an entire nation are doomed to lose.

Soslan Fidarov, who played the role of Bazgaev's closest assistant, emphasizes that he wanted to show the audience what not to do and how not to live. Although working on the set was not easy. Largely because Fidarov is a native of Ossetia, and he had to play a man who harmed his people.

“You see, every step you take you feel that you are a scoundrel. Also a scoundrel, whom everyone knows and who brought a lot of evil to the people. It's very difficult," the actor said.

Basayev organized a number of resonant terrorist acts in Russia. He claimed responsibility for the seizure of school No. 1 in Beslan, the hostage-taking at the Theater Center on Dubrovka, the explosion at the Dynamo stadium in Grozny, which killed the President of the Chechen Republic Akhmat Kadyrov, and about ten more high-profile terrorist attacks.

In 2006, a terrorist was destroyed in the Nazranovsky district of Ingushetia: FSB officers organized an explosion of a truck with weapons and ammunition, which was accompanied by Basayev.

On Monday, the head of the FSB, Nikolai Patrushev, reported to President Vladimir Putin on the liquidation of terrorist No. 1 Shamil Basayev in Ingushetia. According to Patrushev, Basayev and a dozen other militants were planning a major terrorist attack to coincide with the G-8 meeting. The terrorists blew themselves up in a KamAZ filled with explosives. Chechen President Alu Alkhanov said that death. And Ramzan Kadyrov told Izvestia that his only regret was that Basayev did not die at his hands.

The militants were going to blow up the Interior Ministry of Ingushetia

It all started with a small report that a KamAZ truck loaded with explosives had been blown up in Ingushetia. The explosion occurred around midnight near the village of Ekazhevo. The whole village woke up from the roar - glass flew out in many houses.

As it turned out, on the road passing near the village, a KamAZ exploded, literally packed with explosives and weapons. The explosion destroyed two more "nines" that accompanied the truck. There were four militants in them. Izvestia immediately called Nazran.

In "KamAZ" the militants were carrying weapons and ammunition, because several terrorist attacks were being prepared, and not only in Ingushetia, - we were told in the FSB department for Ingushetia. - The road on which the truck was driving was a country road, apparently, the charge detonated during shaking.

However, this was only the first version. The counterintelligence officers deliberately dissembled. Later it turned out that the explosion was the result of a planned special operation. As Izvestia was told at the Nazran police department, special forces blocked a truck and two cars on the outskirts of Ekazhev.

According to investigators, on Monday the militants planned to drive the truck as close as possible to the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ingushetia and blow it up. Experts say that if this plan were carried out, then the power of the explosion would be enough to destroy the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and nearby residential buildings would also be damaged.

Investigators who arrived at the scene of the explosion found that the force of the explosion was more than one hundred kilograms of TNT. Two militants were also identified - these are the well-known terrorists Isa Kushtov and Tarkhan Ganizhev. In Ingushetia, they have been looking for them for a long time. Isa Kushtov was involved in the kidnapping of the father-in-law of the President of Ingushetia, Murat Zyazikov, Magomed Chakhkiev. And Tarkhan Ganizhev took part in the armed attack on Ingushetia on June 21-22, 2004.

The explosion was not accidental

The message that Shamil Basayev was among those killed came in the afternoon. This was reported to the president by FSB director Nikolai Patrushev. According to him, Basayev was destroyed during a complex special operation. What kind of operation it was - you can understand by carefully analyzing the words of the chief counterintelligence officer.

Tonight, a special operation was carried out in Ingushetia, on the preparation of which I reported to you earlier, - Patrushev told the president. - As a result, Shamil Basayev, as well as a number of bandits who carried out the preparation and commission of terrorist attacks in Ingushetia, were destroyed. This event became possible due to the fact that operational positions were created abroad. First of all, in those countries in which weapons were collected and subsequently delivered to us in Russia to carry out terrorist attacks.

So, it was not on the pothole that the KamAZ, stuffed with explosives, “stumbled”. That is, counterintelligence officers found in some country people who enjoyed the trust of "arms customers." It was collected, packed and transported, already knowing that it would have to become a "detonator" at the right day and hour. And obviously more than one "partisan" was preparing this, otherwise it would not have gone a long way to Basayev. Although there is a possibility that, since Patrushev speaks so openly about this, the cargo was "copied" in jewelry and replaced at one of the stages of transportation. Or did they put something in it?

In favor of the fact that the threads lead abroad is the recent very tough statement by President Putin that the killers of Russian diplomats must be found and destroyed anywhere in the world. He also said that he hopes for the help of our friends abroad. The president spoke very confidently, but at that time, of the well-known special operations, only the liquidation of Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev was remembered. However, now it is clear what Putin had in mind: the FSB reported in detail about the passage of a cargo of weapons across the border, about its receipt by Basayev, and so on. And about the real help that "friends" have already provided. If so, then the presidential order to find the executioners is likely to be carried out.

Let's pay attention to the fact that the explosion does not occur within the city, not in the village, but on its outskirts. Potholes are everywhere in those parts, but the explosion occurred where the number of accidental victims was minimal. Perhaps this is how the set timer worked. Or did they point it remotely? The possibility of a "tail" is categorically excluded, taking into account the experience of Basayev's guards. So, was there either a "beacon" or pointed from a satellite?

The terrorists actually died at the entrance to Nazran. The risk that they would reach the city center increased with each kilometer. Doesn't this mean that Basayev appeared next to the cargo at the last moment - that is, he hid either in the vicinity of Nazran, or even in the city itself? And this is most likely a matter of intelligence work. And patient waiting: according to Nikolai Patrushev, the bandits were going to commit a terrorist act in order to put pressure on the Russian leadership during the preparations for the G8 summit.

What we know about Shamil Basayev testifies that he invariably appeared where another “significant” in terms of the degree of his cruelty and timed to coincide with the date (we saw him before May 9 in Grozny, before September 1 - in Beslan) terrorist attack. Like a vampire circling in front of a crime scene and then crawling into a hole...

This is a well-deserved retribution for the bandits for our children in Beslan, in Budyonnovsk, for all the terrorist attacks that they committed in Moscow, in other regions of Russia, including Ingushetia and the Chechen Republic," Vladimir Putin congratulated all members of the special forces.

Ramzan Kadyrov: "The next one will be Doku Umarov"

The liquidation of Shamil Basayev was the second success of the special services in last month(On June 17, the self-proclaimed president of Ichkeria, Abdul-Khalim Sadulayev, who took the place of Aslan Maskhadov, was destroyed).

The President of Chechnya said that the fight against terrorism in the North Caucasus can be considered over.

We are grateful to those who destroyed Basayev, but I regret that it was not me who did it,” Ramzan Kadyrov told Izvestia. - Basayev was not only terrorist No. 1, but also my personal enemy, through whose fault 420 of my closest associates, relatives and friends were killed. He also took responsibility for the death of my father, Akhmat Kadyrov.

Meanwhile, during a meeting with Nikolai Patrushev, Vladimir Putin drew attention to the fact that even after Basayev's death, the terrorist threat had not abated.

You and I are well aware that the terrorist threat is still very high, and operational work in this area must not be weakened,” the president said. - On the contrary, we need to strengthen it and increase the effectiveness of our actions.

Chronicle of the crimes of "terrorist No. 1"

On November 9, 1991, he was a participant in the hijacking of a Tu-154 passenger plane from the airport Mineral water to Turkey. On June 14, 1995, he led the hostage-taking in the hospital building in Budyonnovsk, where about 130 people died. In December 1995, he was one of the leaders of the assault on Grozny.

In August-September 1999, he led the invasion of gangs into Dagestan. In September 1999, at the direction of Basayev and Khattab, houses in Moscow and Volgodonsk were blown up, killing more than 240 people. On October 23, 2002, on the orders of Basayev, a detachment of terrorists led by Movsar Barayev seized more than 800 hostages in the Theater Center on Dubrovka, then 128 people died. Basayev was involved in the explosion of the Government House of Chechnya on December 27, 2002. The attack killed 80 and injured about 210 people. May 9, 2004 - an explosion at the Dynamo stadium in Grozny. Among the dead were Chechen President Akhmat Kadyrov and Chairman of the State Council of the Republic Hussein Isaev. June 22, 2004 - an attack on the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Nazran in Ingushetia killed more than 75 people. From September 1 to September 3, 2004 - a terrorist attack at school No. 1 in Beslan, more than 330 people were killed. October 13, 2005 - an attack on the city of Nalchik killed more than 20 people.

Who is Doku Umarov

After the destruction of Shamil Basayev, Doku Umarov remained the only serious figure among the terrorists operating in the North Caucasus. After the liquidation of the so-called president of Ichkeria, Abdul-Khalim Sadulaev, it was Doku Umarov who was "appointed" to this post. 42-year-old Umarov in the first Chechen campaign commanded the Borz special forces subordinate to Dzhokhar Dudayev. In 1997, Umarov became chairman of the security council of Ichkeria. After the start of the second Chechen campaign, he was appointed "commander of the southwestern defense front of Ichkeria." Umarov is involved in a number of kidnappings in Chechnya. He is considered the customer of the explosions of electric trains in Kavminvody in 2003. He participated and led, together with Basayev, the attack on Ingushetia in 2004, as well as numerous acts of sabotage.

On the night of July 10, 2006, explosions were heard on the outskirts of the village of Ekazhevo in the Nazranovsky district of the Republic of Ingushetia. First, one or two strong explosions almost merging into one, from which windows flew out in houses hundreds of meters away, and doors were knocked out in the nearest buildings. This was followed by a frequent drumming of small breaks.

Coming out of the nearest houses, the residents saw people wandering around the site of the explosion, who were looking for someone, talking to each other in Chechen and calling out: "Shamil! Shamil!". They soon disappeared.

A short time later, less than half an hour later, officers of the special services appeared on the spot. The local policemen were not allowed to the place of the explosion, where the fire was blazing at that moment. Only in the middle of the day were OMON RI sappers allowed there. The skeleton of a KamAZ and two heavily damaged VAZ-2109 cars were found at the scene.

In the morning, news agencies, citing the FSB for Ingushetia, reported that "during a special operation to eliminate militants in the village of Ekazhevo, Nazranovsky district of Ingushetia, a KamAZ loaded with explosives spontaneously exploded ... the militants were transporting weapons and ammunition. ... the power of the explosion was 100 kg in TNT equivalent. ... the militants were heading to one from the regions of Ingushetia to carry out a major terrorist attack, namely, to blow up a car filled with explosives... ...an operational-investigative group is working at the scene. The identities of the militants blown up during the explosion are being established".

Three relatively intact corpses and numerous fragments were found at the site. The two bodies were initially identified as Isa Kushtov and Tarkhan Ganizhev.

The FSB officers reported some details of the terrorist act being prepared by the militants. In addition to TNT, there were "shells that were placed in the body in order to increase the power of the explosion", and named the target that the militants were going to undermine - the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ingushetia in Nazran: they were going to avenge the policemen for successful special operations. One version was voiced about the causes of the incident: spontaneous detonation as a result of careless handling of ammunition.

In the afternoon, towards evening, there was a message that among the human remains, body parts were found and identified, which, as stated, belonged to Shamil Basayev.

Soon the director of the FSB, Nikolai Patrushev, reported this to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, - his words were quoted in the television plot: "Tonight, a special operation was carried out in Ingushetia, the preparation of which I reported to you earlier. As a result, Shamil Basayev was destroyed, as well as a number of bandits who prepared and carried out terrorist attacks in Ingushetia. This event became possible due to the fact that operational positions were created abroad. First of all, in those countries in which weapons were collected and subsequently delivered to us in Russia to carry out terrorist attacks ".

That same evening, at 7:35 pm, the report of Shamil Basayev's death was confirmed by the Kavkaz Center website of the separatists.

In the following days, the media - television and central newspapers loyal to the authorities - commented in every possible way on the version of the "special operation".

So, "Komsomolskaya Pravda" wrote that Basayev and others were killed as a result of the explosion of a KamAZ truck loaded with TNT, to which an explosive mechanism was attached. Allegedly, the signal that Basayev was planning to carry out a terrorist attack in Nazran using a KamAZ during the days of the G-8 summit came a month earlier. "" It was decided to put their man on the tail of "KamAZ". ". As a result, "counterintelligence officers had only to send an electronic signal at the right time."

At the same time, referring to the power structures of the Southern Federal District, the ITAR-TASS agency reported that Basayev was destroyed, as Dzhokhar Dudayev was earlier, by a directed missile strike, calculating by mobile phone. The Center for Public Relations of the FSB of Russia declined to comment on this information.

Finally, the newspaper Izvestiya published numerous details of the "special operation" carried out on three pages, including activities abroad, the use of an unmanned aerial vehicle and a satellite.

Journalist V. Rechkalov writes in the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper: "The destruction of Basayev became possible most likely thanks to agents finally introduced into Basayev's entourage. ... Patrushev's statements that Basayev was covered thanks to foreign connections are nothing more than operational misinformation by the special services covering their agents. ... This is an undoubted victory of our special services, both military and political... The special operation to eliminate Basayev allows our special services to seize the initiative from the current Chechen security forces headed by Chechen Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov... by destroying Basayev, our special services have regained their self-esteem and the moral right to exercise full control in Chechnya".

However, besides the priority over the Chechen pro-Russian power structures, the priority within the "power bloc" seemed no less significant. And it is not known what will be more important in this story: after all, a bonus of either $10 million or 300 million rubles was officially announced for Basayev's "head". In this assumption, the silence of the FSB in response to the version of "unmanned aerial vehicles" and "satellites" is understandable - these forces and means are at the disposal of the military.

In general, Patrushev's version received the greatest development in the media.

He developed his words about "operational positions abroad" and an unnamed "expert from among the veterans of the Russian special services", who informed Interfax about "a multi-way intelligence and operational operation in which foreign partners of the FSB of Russia were involved ... the Russian special services skillfully used operational information about foreign channels for supplying weapons to militants in Chechnya. ... the supplier supplied Basayev with explosive devices, and the FSB received a remote control for these devices". Without giving details, the "expert" advised "carefully analyze media reports in the past two months" about the contacts of both the special services and the country's leadership with representatives of foreign states - it seems that this advice was followed by the media. And the “expert” categorically rejected the initial version of the “accidental” undermining of the KamAZ, which had been confirmed by the separatists themselves by that time: "for people like Basayev, nothing accidentally explodes".

Meanwhile, not only non-specialists, but also former colleagues of the Chekists themselves, in particular, the first head of the explosive department of the KGB of the USSR, created in the 80s of the 20th century, Vladimir Mikhailov, doubt the version of remote detonation: "Special electronic means exist, but detonation is possible only when the explosive device is in the final equipped state. ... It is unlikely that someone would dare to transport a fully equipped explosive device, since it can explode on its own".

The point is also that the very multiplicity of simultaneously appeared versions of the involvement of the "siloviki" in the death of Basayev gives rise to doubts about this involvement.

However, it is not only those publications that develop the theme of a "carefully prepared operation" of the special services that cause doubt, but also the materials of publications that cast doubt on this version.

So, in one of the authoritative Moscow newspapers, it was reported about the Ganizhevs' estate adjoining the forest, from where the militants dragged weapons; about two KamAZ trucks, one of which exploded, and the other in the estate; that Basayev and other militants were hiding in the basements of the estate; that the police appeared on the spot in half an hour, and the special services arrived in time a few hours later.

When examining the scene of the incident, it turned out that the forest was located several kilometers from there (except for the liquid chain of bushes and trees at the bottom of the ravine).

There was no KamAZ in this neighboring estate, and there could not be: in the yard there is untouched weeds, and the gates, long tightly closed, are screwed with rusty bolts for reliability.

This estate itself was a long-term construction, which was not used by anyone in any way. There are no basements there, but there are pits that are not blocked from above with construction debris at the bottom and without the slightest trace of human presence. There is, however, a hole, a fox or a badger, - more proof of the abandonment of the estate.

The estate belongs not to the Ganizhevs, but to the Evloevs.

The first to arrive at the scene were by no means policemen, but FSB officers, and then the police were not allowed in for a long time - until the arrival of sappers of the Ingush OMON.

It seems that the publications overcame their own sluggishness (or skillfully organized information blockade) by contacting "sources" in the field. The "sources", in turn, did not consider it possible to admit to ignorance, and provided information, to put it mildly, inaccurate.

Although no one - neither the federal structures nor the separatists - deny the fact of Basayev's death, it is very difficult to establish this in a proper manner.

Visual identification and coincidence of special signs is not enough.

The body is severely damaged - the head is torn off, the eyes are torn, the chest is depressed, lower limbs appear to be fragmented. It seems that he was squatting over a powerful explosive device lying on the ground at the moment when it went off.

For molecular genetic examination, it is necessary to take a sample from blood relatives Basaev. But those, according to the head of the administration of the Vedensky district of Chechnya, do not live there.

The hands were cut off from the body. It is unlikely that forensic doctors wanted to reproduce this parallel with the fate of Che Guevara - it was simply necessary to stop the process of maceration, detachment of the epithelium. The hands were placed in an alcohol solution, after some time fingerprints were obtained. But it turned out that not a single filing cabinet in Russia contains samples of the prints of the person wanted as "terrorist number one."

The place on the outskirts of Ekazhevo, where the militants stopped, was obviously not chosen by chance - however, like the time.

The militants' vehicles, a KamAZ and two VAZ-2109s, were parked close to the Evloevs' estate on the site owned by the Tsechoevs. This site on the outskirts is covered by uninhabited houses and a capital fence, and is not visible from the village. Close to the fence is attached a wooden canopy. All this together reliably hid the KamAZ and cars that stood near the fence from all the inhabitants of the village.

Whether it was possible to see them from other points is unknown. There are no dominant heights in the vicinity on which to hide. However, visibility at this time could be excellent: full moon was above the horizon.

But the time was also chosen correctly - the final of the World Cup. At this time, there was a high probability that everyone who should be vigilant was watching the France-Italy match.

The first explosion, apparently, occurred at ground level, on the side of the KamAZ - a deep crater remained from it. Then the explosives in the back of the truck detonated. The blast wave demolished not only the fence of the estate, but also the main wall of one of the outbuildings. The body and cab of the truck were scattered over a large area, as well as the contents of the body - rockets and cartridges. The fire started.

On the third day, July 12, the human rights activists and journalists who arrived at the scene became a voluntary assistant to the police and sappers. They immediately turned to the district police officer, because dozens of NURSs (unguided rockets), explosives, and packs of cartridges were lying on the ground. The sappers who arrived that day destroyed about two hundred NURS and tens of kilograms of TNT. The detonation of these munitions was shown on television news that day. The explosion crater was like a half-ton bomb, if not more.

On July 14, sappers of the Ingush OMON were again looking for ammunition in the thickets of weeds - 15 NURSs were found and blown up. In addition, they took with them for transfer to the prosecutor's office a piece of the bone of the cranial vault with a scalp (it definitely did not belong to Basayev - he was bald, and the scalp was covered with thick black hair). Investigators from the prosecutor's office and FSB officers from Vladikavkaz, who arrived on the scene that day, found two more pieces of human flesh thrown back by the explosion in the rubble of the walls.

Thus, the bulk of the contents of the body - hundreds of unguided rockets - did not work at all during the first explosion, but were scattered over a large area.

It is obvious that the shells were not in the back to increase the force of the explosion - their warheads did not detonate during the explosion and fire.

At the same time, all the inspected shells, both exploding and unexploded, were prepared for manual launch, - wires and triggers were wound to their tail section with blue electrical tape.

It is unlikely that someone will simply pre-prepare the ammunition obtained from somewhere in this way - rather, shortly before use.

And it is unlikely that Shamil Basayev would have allowed himself to simply accept the cargo, or "work" with it long before the alleged terrorist attack. The place was too dangerous for this - very close to the well-guarded Magas, the capital of Ingushetia.

But he could well personally check the readiness and give instructions immediately before the attack - as far as we know, this is quite in his style.

We can make some assumptions about the nature of the attack itself.

What are NURSs generally suitable for - unguided projectiles - if not for blowing up along with a car? Meanwhile, you can run them with any guide, although the accuracy will be low. But a volley of tens or hundreds of shells at the same time can compensate for the low accuracy of fire.

The administrative buildings and power structures of Ingushetia and Chechnya have long been prepared to repel suicide attacks on trucks with explosives - barriers of concrete blocks and other barriers have been erected to prevent terrorists from approaching the target.

But if a KamAZ with unguided projectiles stood a few hundred meters from the building, and hundreds of these projectiles were fired directly from the body, then a significant part of them - perhaps a hundred - would hit the target. Dozens of shells would fly into the windows. The capital walls of the building would have withstood, but the high-explosive fragmentation warheads of the NURSs would have brought significant damage to the interior.

After such a shelling, some time later, the "siloviki" would definitely come up to the car - security, investigators, sappers, etc. And then a second charge would be put into action - such a scheme has already been tested more than once by militants. The same charge that destroyed Basayev himself on the night of July 10.

If these assumptions are correct, then it was planned to carry out this, most likely, in Magas on the morning or afternoon on Monday, July 10.

The head of the FSB noted that the event to eliminate Basayev "became possible due to the fact that an operational training base was created, primarily in those countries where weapons were collected, which were subsequently transported to the militants in Russia"
News

In Ingushetia, on the night of July 10, Shamil Basayev and a number of bandits were killed as a result of a special operation, FSB director Nikolai Patrushev reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.

Patrushev said that these bandits "carried out preparations for a terrorist act in Ingushetia." The director of the FSB specifically noted that the bandits "were going to use this sabotage and terrorist act in order to put pressure on the Russian leadership during the period when the G-8 summit was planned," Interfax reports.

Meanwhile, the Ingush security officials say that there could be a self-explosion. However, they might not have known about the FSB special operation, which, according to Patrushev, was prepared ahead of time, at the stage of manufacturing weapons sold to the militants.

According to the head of the FSB, the event to eliminate Basayev "became possible due to the fact that an operational training base was created, primarily in those countries where weapons were collected, which were subsequently transported to the militants in Russia."

Chechen separatists confirm the death of Shamil Basayev. A message appeared on the website of the militants, in which the representative of the military committee, Abu Umar, states that "Shamil and our other brothers became martyrs", of course, "by the will of Allah."

At the same time, the separatists claim that "there was no special operation": Basayev "died as a result of an accidental spontaneous explosion of a truck with explosives" (i.e., as follows from this version, Basayev was blown up by Allah himself - approx. website). The report also confirmed the deaths of three more militants.

For his part, Vladimir Putin congratulated "all the employees of the special forces who prepared and carried out this operation." "This is a well-deserved retribution for the bandits for our children in Beslan, in Budennovsk, for all the terrorist attacks they carried out in Moscow, in other regions of Russia, including Ingushetia and the Chechen Republic," Putin said.

He instructed Patrushev to prepare a proposal to present for awards those intelligence officers who prepared and carried out this operation.

At the same time, the President stressed: "We are well aware that the terrorist threat is still very high, and attention to this direction must not be weakened, it is necessary to strengthen and increase the effectiveness of activities in this direction."

Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika told Interfax that the criminal case against terrorist Shamil Basayev would be dropped on non-rehabilitating grounds due to death. "After the completion of all studies: forensic, as well as personal identification, a procedural decision will be made - to terminate the criminal case due to the death of the accused due to non-rehabilitating circumstances," Chaika said on Monday in Rostov-on-Don.

Basayev was wanted by Russian law enforcement agencies after the attack on Budyonnovsk by a bandit group led by him. Since 1999 he has been included in international wanted list through Interpol among the most notorious Russian terrorists. Later, he was also charged in absentia with organizing a series of the bloodiest terrorist attacks, including the attack on the Beslan school, the hostage-taking in the theater center on Dubrovka, the explosions of residential buildings in Moscow and Volgodonsk, and a number of others.

The fact of the destruction of Shamil Basayev will be confirmed by a genetic examination, a high-ranking source in the law enforcement agencies of the Southern Federal District told RIA Novosti by telephone. "Although the special services have 100% certainty that it was Basayev who was killed, his destruction will be confirmed. The terrorist's remains will be delivered to one of the medical laboratories, where a corresponding examination will be carried out," the agency's interlocutor said. According to him, the genetic examination will take about a week.

Basayev's body was identified by fragments. He died in a massive explosion. He was identified by his head. "The terrorist's body was decapitated by the explosion, but according to characteristic signs, it was assumed that this was none other than Shamil Basayev," a source told RIA Novosti.

Basayev died as a result of the explosion of a KamAZ car, which occurred on Monday early in the morning. "It was right next to this KamAZ that there were several cars carrying militants, including Basayev," Deputy Prime Minister of Ingushetia Bashir Aushev, who oversees the power bloc, said today. He noted that the operation to eliminate Basayev had been preparing for a long time.

Earlier it was reported that in the area of the village of Ekazhevo, Nazranovsky district of Ingushetia, during a special operation to eliminate militants, a KamAZ vehicle stuffed with explosives spontaneously exploded. According to the FSB, the militants were sent to one of the regions of Ingushetia to commit a major terrorist attack, namely, to blow up a car filled with explosives. Chechen separatists confirmed the death of four militants through their website.

Basayev's body was discovered by the FSB after the truck was blown up. The column was accompanied by three cars, one of which was Basayev.

As Aushev noted, the experts knew Basayev's distinguishing features - a characteristic beard and a prosthesis instead of one leg. "All have been discovered. characteristics", - said Aushev.

The force of this explosion was such that only some fragments of the body remained from the truck. Passenger cars can be identified as Zhiguli cars.

Apparently, the Russian special services began preparations for this operation abroad. This version is confirmed by the head of the FSB, who said that the event to eliminate Basayev "became possible due to the fact that an operational training base was created, primarily in those countries where weapons were collected, which were subsequently transported to the militants in Russia." It is possible that a certain device was mounted in advance in the weapons that the militants were transporting, which, on command, was blown up.

Meanwhile, according to the FSB of Ingushetia, the explosives in the car could have detonated as a result of careless handling, ITAR-TASS reports. The power of the explosion was equal to 100 kg of TNT. According to local security officials, the explosion killed three to five other people in addition to Basayev.

According to the Russian Channel One, the death of the well-known terrorist Shamil Basayev could have been a pinpoint missile attack. "According to our information, Shamil Basayev was destroyed by a pinpoint missile strike, just like Dzhokhar Dudayev," the channel's correspondent said.

According to the information provided in the TV report, the militants were destroyed as a result of a powerful explosion. This explosion also caused the destruction of part of the brick house. In addition, from the truck, which was in the explosion zone, "only the chassis remained, and from the passenger cars - the hulls." Four bodies and many body fragments were found at the site of the explosion, the channel reports.

According to him, at about 01:00 on Monday, a convoy of three cars, led by a truck filled with explosives, stopped on the outskirts of the village of Ekazhevo in Ingushetia. "As soon as the bandits got out of the car to reload their weapons, there was an explosion. The bandits were killed on the spot," the TV report says.

According to Deputy Prime Minister of Ingushetia Bashir Aushev, five more militants were killed together with Basayev during the special operation. "All those who were destroyed are the very top of the terrorists who were preparing sabotage. The most odious figures in gangs," he said.

According to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ingushetia, Beslan Khamkhoev, about 10 militants were killed during a special operation to eliminate the leader of the militants, Shamil Basayev. "There was a powerful explosion. Everyone who was within the radius of the explosion was smeared. There are already four corpses of militants in the morgue. According to operational data, the total number of militants killed can reach 10 people," Khamkhoev said.

Thus, three main scenarios of Basayev's death took shape in the media. Two of them are based on FSB reports, according to which it was a special operation of the Russian special services. However, the details of it were not disclosed, so the media began to build versions: either a certain microchip with a detonator somewhere in a truck with weapons, or targeted liquidation with a missile strike - by analogy with the liquidation of Dzhokhar Dudayev. The third option is a banal negligence in handling weapons, it was voiced by the security forces in Ingushetia, after which the separatists themselves picked it up.

The TsOS FSB reported that as a result of a special operation in Ingushetia, in addition to Basayev, 12 more militants were killed. Ali Taziev, known under the nickname "Magas", was identified among the killed militants.

"Some of them have already been identified. They are well-known members of illegal armed groups Tarkhan Ganizhev, Isa Kushtov and Ali Taziev, known by the nickname Magas," ITAR-TASS quoted the Russian FSB as saying.

"Magas", also known by the name Evloev, according to witnesses, participated in the seizure of a school in Beslan, but the investigation declared him dead. The militant "resurrected" after he claimed responsibility for the murder of Ingush Deputy Interior Minister Dzhabrail Kostoev. Another 6 people also became victims of the terrorist attack in Nazran on May 17.

On the eve it became known that Shamil Basayev officially thanked the Iraqi fighters for the destruction of the employees of the Russian embassy in Baghdad. Earlier, the leadership of the Chechen separatists in every possible way distanced themselves from the murder of Russians in Iraq. In particular, the Foreign Minister of the so-called Chechen Republic Ichkeria Akhmed Zakayev called the ultimatum of the Iraqi al-Qaeda "a provocation of the Russian special services."

As indicated on the Kavkaz Center website, in a telegram for the media, Basayev indicates: "The Mujahideen of the Caucasus express their deep gratitude to those who destroyed Russian diplomats-spies in Iraq. Their destruction is a worthy response to the murder by Russian terrorists from the Russian Foreign Ministry of a Chechen diplomat, ex President of the CRI Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev.

The Chechen separatists have not yet confirmed Basayev's death, but they cannot refute these reports either, so Akhmet Zakayev, an emissary of the Chechen separatists in London, told Ekho Moskvy. In his opinion, if Basayev is destroyed, then this will not affect the situation in Chechnya and the North Caucasus as a whole.

"As long as the Chechen people exist, until mutually acceptable relations between Russia and Chechnya are properly defined, this cannot lead to a long-term and promising peace," Zakayev said.

"This conflict initially began as a purely political one, which escalated into violence," he said. "Today we find ourselves in a vicious circle of violence and it is possible to break this circle only with the manifestation of political will." According to him, "the prerogative to end and start wars has always remained with Russia, and now nothing has changed. Neither the death of Basayev, nor the death of Maskhadov, Dudayev, Saidulaev and other Chechens and Russians who die in vain in this senseless massacre, cannot solve this problem."

As for information about Basayev's death, Zakayev said that he did not know anything about it for sure. He said that he learned about everything from the media. "I don't believe in any operation carried out by Patrushev and his colleagues," he remarked, "I think it was a fatal accident."

Chechen Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov is convinced that the militant leader, terrorist Shamil Basayev, killed in Ingushetia, "has never been a Muslim or a believer." "It was a jackal, and he died like a jackal, and his body was collected in pieces," Kadyrov said.

He again expressed regret that others managed to destroy Shamil Basayev, and not him. "Basayev was not only terrorist number 1, but also my personal enemy, through whose fault 420 of my closest associates, relatives and close people were killed," Kadyrov told reporters in Gudermes.

He noted that "Basayev was the only person in the world who took responsibility for the death of Akhmad Kadyrov." “It never occurred to anyone else to say that he organized and carried out a terrorist act against President Kadyrov. I considered it my sacred filial duty to take revenge on Basayev for the death of my father, and with great joy over his liquidation, feelings of regret do not leave me that this the monster did not go to the other world with my help," the prime minister of Chechnya said, noting that he dreamed "to strangle him with his own hands."

At the same time, Kadyrov believes that "the destruction of Sh. Basayev will have no effect on the situation in Chechnya." "The Chechen people have long forgotten about Basayev and are busy building a peaceful life. Basayev had absolutely no influence on the situation in Chechnya even when he was alive, since he ran outside Chechnya, and we talked about this," the head of the Chechen government said.

Kadyrov stressed that he did not know the specific details of the operation, although "he was informed about the destruction of Basayev even in the afternoon."

Speaking about Basayev's role, he stressed that Basayev and Abdulkhalim Saidulayev "were strong and main recruiters of youth in illegal armed formations." "They fraudulently involved young people in illegal armed formations, and those who tried to return home were killed if they succeeded," Kadyrov said.

"I wanted to find him for five years, I ran after him in the mountains and in the forest, but knowing this, he was afraid to appear in Chechnya, but the end of the terrorists, wherever they hide - in Chechnya, Russia or outside, will be similar, and no one will mourn them," Kadyrov said.

According to the President of the Chechen Republic Alu Alkhanova, the elimination of Basayev puts an end to the counter-terrorist operation on the territory of Chechnya. "I believe that today can be considered the date of the logical end of the hardest fight against illegal armed groups, which was carried out by special services, federal forces and law enforcement agencies," Alkhanov emphasized.

He noted that Basayev got what he deserved over the past 15 years, committing one bloody terrorist attack after another. Alkhanov noted that today's operation should once again sober the heads of those who plot evil. "They were taught a lesson that clearly indicates that not a single terrorist will be able to escape retribution," Alkhanov stressed.

Head of the Government of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov regrets that he himself did not participate in the operation to destroy Shamil Basayev. “The elimination of Basayev is undoubtedly a success for the security forces,” he said, commenting on the information about the destruction of one of the leaders of the terrorists in the North Caucasus. “There is a lot of blood on him, he brought a lot of grief and suffering to both the Chechen people and other peoples of Russia. This success of the power structures.

The prime minister of Chechnya said in an interview to Interfax about Basayev: "He was a jackal, and he died like a jackal, and his body was collected in pieces." According to Kadyrov, Basayev "has never been a Muslim or a believer." "Basayev was not only terrorist number 1, but also my personal enemy, through whose fault 420 of my closest associates, relatives and close people were killed," the prime minister said.

Kadyrov recalled that Basayev was known for his connections with international terrorists, including al-Qaeda and other international terrorist organizations. He expressed satisfaction with the fact that society "has lost one of the culprits of the events that took place on the territory of Chechnya in last years".

Former prime minister of the Russian Federation and director of the FSB Sergei Stepashin, now head of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation, believes that the destruction of the terrorist Shamil Basayev means a new qualitative stage in the work of the Russian special services.

"For me, Basayev, one might say, was a blood lover. What he did in Budyonnovsk was the strongest blow to the country. The destruction of Basayev is a fundamental turning point in the fight against terrorism as a whole," Stepashin told Interfax on Monday.

"The destruction of Basayev also means a new qualitative stage in the work of the Russian special services, and as a former director of the FSB, I want to sincerely congratulate my colleagues on their success," he stressed.

The destruction of one of the most notorious terrorists, Shamil Basayev, is the most significant result of the counterterrorist operation in Chechnya, according to the majority of State Duma deputies polled on Monday. First Vice Speaker of the State Duma Love Sliska stressed that the news of the destruction of Basayev and other Chechen fighters "is of particular importance also because this impressive victory in the fight against terrorism was achieved on the eve of the G-8 summit."

According to the head of the security committee Vladimir Vasiliev, "the destruction of Basayev is a vivid example of the fact that terrorism should be punished by the methods that the state has at its disposal." "Special services work systematically, effectively solve their tasks," the deputy stressed.

The House International Affairs Committee regards Basayev's liquidation "as one of the most outstanding successes of the Russian special services." "Ramzan Kadyrov gave the exact wording of this terrorist's activity. Only a bullet could cure Basayev," the committee's first deputy chairman told ITAR-TASS Leonid Slutsky. "This is one of the most significant results in the counterterrorist operation," he said.

Slutsky believes that with the death of the leader of the Chechen fighters, there will be a disorientation of gangs in the republic, which will positively affect the settlement of the situation in the entire North Caucasus region. "The actions of our special services will also be approved by the international community. The G-8 summit in St. Petersburg will now be held in a calm atmosphere," the deputy head of the committee is sure.

The news of Basayev's liquidation was also called a strong blow to the terrorist underground by the first deputy chairman of the security committee. Mikhail Grishankov. He believes that the elimination of Basayev, in particular, will undermine the financing of militants in Chechnya, as well as "undermine the chain of ties with international terrorism." "There is no doubt that such a big victory for the Russian special services will play a huge role in stabilizing the situation in Chechnya. After the destruction of Basayev, the situation in the republic cannot fail to stabilize," Grishankov said.

The destruction of the militant leader Shamil Basayev is welcomed by the leaders of the democratic parties. "If Basayev is really destroyed, this is, of course, a plus for our special services, this is their merit and victory," the chairman of the Federal Political Council of the Union of Right Forces told Interfax on Monday. Nikita Belykh.

In turn, the deputy chairman of the Yabloko party gave a similar assessment. "Of course, this is the success of the special services, and we need to talk about it directly," he said. Sergei Ivanenko.

Leader of the Free Russia Party Alexander Ryavkin believes that "this operation shows that our special services are slowly but surely moving towards the final completion of the anti-terrorist operation in Chechnya." "Of course, the liquidation of the leader deals a serious blow to the entire organization, although some field commanders are still trying to continue their activities," Ryavkin said.

At the same time, Belykh and Ivanenko expressed the opinion that with the destruction of Basayev, it is hardly possible to assert that the situation in Chechnya will improve immediately. "The issue of personalities is very important, but it is not the only one. Therefore, it is hardly worth predicting that everything will improve in the republic now," Belykh said.

"The problems of Chechnya are too deep-rooted, and it will not be possible to get out of this situation in this way. We need to deal with economic and social issues, create a round table of all the leading Chechen politicians and try to wash away the blood that has been shed there in recent years," Ivanenko said.

Speaker of the Federation Council Sergei Mironov I am sure that the liquidation of the terrorist Shamil Basayev by the special services will help improve the situation in the North Caucasus in general and in Chechnya and Ingushetia in particular.

"I congratulate our special services on this success. Basayev was perceived as a kind of banner by various terrorists and terrorist groups, and this murderer of children suffered a well-deserved and fair punishment," Mironov told reporters.

He stressed that the special services, by eliminating Basayev, thereby implemented one of the most important principles - the inevitability of punishment. "Any crime against Russian citizens, against the state must be punished, and this is a signal to all those who try to encroach on it," Mironov stressed.

At the same time, in his opinion, it is too early to calm down in connection with the liquidation of Basayev, and it is necessary to continue the fight against terrorism, including against its ideologists and organizers. "The elimination of Basayev is evidence of the coordination of the activities of our special services and their coordinated work," Mironov concluded.

President of the Politika Foundation Vyacheslav Nikonov predicts that the destruction of the militant leader Shamil Basayev will lead to the strengthening of power in Chechnya. "In essence, the situation has already been normalized in many respects, but with the elimination of this odious figure (Basaev), the position of the authorities in the region will become even stronger," Nikonov told Interfax.

He believes that the heads of the seven leading countries of the world will congratulate Russian President Vladimir Putin on this event. "The only impact that this news can have on the G8 summit will be that the heads of the world's leading countries congratulate Vladimir Putin on the destruction of a major international terrorist and number one terrorist in Russia, Shamil Basayev," the political scientist said.

At the same time, the political scientist emphasized that Basayev was not only a symbol, but also a real figure, "who is responsible for a large number of terrorist attacks throughout our country, the death of thousands of people.

The destruction of Shamil Basayev "puts an end to the organized resistance of gangs not only in Chechnya, but throughout the North Caucasus," says the head of the analytical department of the Institute of Political and Military Analysis Alexander Khramchikhin. "The destruction of Basayev is a heavy blow to the terrorist resistance. There is no more need to talk about any organized resistance of the gangs," Khramchikhin said.

At the same time, the expert expressed the opinion that the destruction of Basayev on the eve of the G-8 meeting may indicate that the Russian special services controlled the movement of this odious militant. "Apparently, the special services knew where Basayev was, followed his movement and destroyed him at the right moment, from a political point of view," Khramchikhin said.

In turn, Vice-President of the Academy of Geopolitical Problems Konstantin Sivkov stated that "with the liquidation of Shamil Basayev, radical extremism in the North Caucasus has lost its spiritual banner and talented military leader." According to the expert, the militants are unlikely to be able to compensate for this loss. "Of course, they will look for a replacement for him, but it will be difficult for the militants to make up for this loss," Sivkov said.

The destruction of Basayev will lead to the destruction of almost the entire control system of the remnants of gangs in the North Caucasus, said in turn the head of the Center for Military Forecasting Anatoly Tsyganok on Monday. "Basayev held control of many operations carried out by Chechen bandit groups. If we take into account his leading role in planning and coordinating most of the sabotage terrorist operations, then we can say that the control of the actions of the remnants of bandit formations in Chechnya is practically destroyed," Tsyganok said.

The penultimate so-called president of Ichkeria Abdul-Khalim Saidulaev liquidated in the Chechen city of Argun.
